I stood staring at this open wound, shocked. Somehow, i couldn't fight the urge to snap pix of this chapter of my life. Funny how we tell ourselves "it's not that bad" ...its only a cut on the index finger of my cutting hand! This injury has been a real eye opener for me. Needless to say i'm not interested in power tools anymore. I've been learning a lot over the last weeks and will take those lessons with me for the rest of my life. ----------- Oct 2013 Its been a year now since injuring my finger.. I think i came back too soon, but i had to get back to the clippers & my clients. Never regained full motion but hey.... the train must keep rollin!! To each his own, but you looking digital by the head. People come to the barber with a picture of a haircut that they want, but most of the pix are of haircuts with color added.. in spots where no hair is. Add Instagram filters and you don't really need barber skills. #Barberlife is becoming all smoke and mirrors. | #ClipperBeast I was blessed and honored to put together my first haircut drive at Roffler in 2011. With the help of my fellow barbers, clients, and family.. we were able to give away free haircuts and school supplies to the youth of Austin. What a great day and such a great feeling, to see the looks on the face of these kids. There are so many more kids that need haircut's. How can we do more for them? Start with a simple cut to get him in the groove of receiving haircuts. Some people come in with a 10 month old and want a bald fade. He still has soft spots on his skull, i prefer to start with a clean up for the first cut or first couple of cuts. Keep it simple starting off.. it will speed up the haircut process, which will make it less of an un-enjoyable experience. Little kids move a lot, the hair growing across the front-line of his head will usually be the last area of hair to mature. If he does move a lot, I recommend not lining across the front until he is able to start sitting still. You don't wanna begin pushing that hair back, this early in life just to make your baby look neat. Techniques that often prove effective - Bribes| Rewards after haircut. During the haircut, you want to have things to catch his attention, keep his attention, distract him from whats going on with the haircut process...
Practice at home- sit them in a seat, drape them with a towel and pull out a pair of your home clippers. Utilize the bribe system from earlier, turn on clippers and allow them to become familiar with the sound of them, the vibrations. celebrate afterwards with the rewards as if he actually got a cut.
